Yet another step towards my secret resolution of "Think Fit, Be Fit" - "Sunfeast Bangalore 10K Run"....
I had been reading a lot about the Run on the Web and the Newspapers . A of people also spoke to me about how exciting the event could be and knowing, how much I love working for a cause, suggested that take part in it and raise awareness on a Social Issue.. The idea sounded great.. But then.. I had to be realistic!! I cant run for 10 km for nuts.. Neither did the I have the stamina nor the will power!! And with the recent not-so-positive developments in my neck-back pain, I was better off, not participating.. Would work well for all !! :(
But things took a different turn 3 weeks back. Karthik from Rotaract said "Y not get Rotaract registered as a NGO and run for Traffic Awareness is Bangalore?" Traffic Awareness - The apt issue which has been bugging all of us.. The over-taking from the left, the NO Lane Discipline, the seat-belt while driving and many such important aspects..We have been waiting to organize a un/human chain for this issue for a while now, and what better platform than the "Sunfeast Bangalore 1oK run". The fact that I managed a hardcore Trek to Tadiyandamol (10 km trek to the 2nd tallest peak in Karnataka) recently, gave me a good enough boost to participate. And to second it, the cause and Rotaract itself!!
I pumped up myself to register, and here I go.. Filled and submitted the form and received the Bib for Majja Run (5.7 km).. No 28504, my identity for the day.
Till today morning, the 31st of May, 2009, I was unsure of running.. I had millions of reasons, which I was sure people will buy. I was so confused last night, that I decided to just try and have a nice sleep and take a call in the morning..
6.00 am, 31st May, 2009: I woke up fresh and I exactly knew what I wanted.. I wanted to run.. Run to show Bangalore, I Care. Run to defeat myself; my inner self and Run to boost my self-confidence.
I geared up and set home, high in spirits, met up friends and reached Kanteerva Stadium by 8.40 am.
Oh man!! What a sight it was!! There were almost 25,000 people, old and young, abled and specially-abled waiting for the moment.. It seemed like Bangalore was no more a laid-back City.. This City was super-charged, ready to burst, early on a Sundy morning..
As many as 80 odd NGOs were ready with their mascots, wanting to show support for various causes like Education for all, Support Girl Child, Care for Animals, Fight for Human Rights, Greener Bangalore amongst many others.
The "Majja Run" started @ 9 am. All of started with a bang. We,around 20 of us, campaigning for "Traffic Discipline in Bangalore", started our run with a modest 1 banner- approach. Starting off the lap @ Kanteerva Stadium, all through the Cubbon Road -> Kasturba Road -> MG Road -> Vidhana Soudha -> Cubbon Park and back to Kanteerva.
What a run it was!! Stangers pumping each other to run better, helping each other in their cause..
With loads of water, some glucose and high on energy, we ran through the distance, posing for photos, shouting and sweating..
Back in Kanteerva after a full 5.7 km lap, all of us were tired but with a glow on our faces.
The wide grin on my face said it all!!! :) :)
Hurry!!!! I am at the top for the world now.. Surely tired, but much more confident of myself!! :)
I ran for Bangalore, did you???
